¿Qué es HTML?
HTML es la sigla para Hyper Text Markup Language que en español se podría traducir como «lenguaje de marcado de hipertexto».
El código HTML, consiste en una serie de etiquetas que forman un lenguaje que hace posible visualizar información multimedia y/o texto en los navegadores.
Entonces, lo que se ve al visitar una página en Internet es la interpretación que hace el navegador del código HTML.
¿Para qué sirve saber HTML?
El código HTML sirve para crear sitios web. ¡Así de simple!. Por lo tanto, si deseas crear un sitio web, no tienes otra solución que aprender HTML. Incluso si usas editores visuales como Kompozer, Frontpage o Dreamweaver, debes tener al menos un conocimiento básico de HTML. En todo caso, el lenguaje HTML es muy fácil de aprender y de usar.
Con el siguiente ejemplo puedes ver la estructura de una página HTML por dentro, la página contiene solo una línea de texto:

Si deseas probar este código, cópialo en el editor de texto. En Windows puedes usar el Block de Notas o WordPad y guardar el archivo con un nombre como por ejemplo “codigo01″ y extensión htm o html (codigo01.htm ó codigo01.html).
